The city links you to the licensing boards
Shelby’s building permit resources page links directly to the state boards for general contractors, electrical contractors and plumbing, heating and fire sprinkler contractors, plus a workers’ compensation form. That is the city telling applicants what it expects to see. On a metal building and slab over $40,000, the general contractor board is the one that matters, and the license search there takes a minute.
Workers’ compensation is on the list for a reason
A crew standing trusses sixteen feet up on your lot should be covered by someone’s workers’ compensation policy. My contract said orders might be filled by an independent installer and said nothing about insurance. Ask the seller for a certificate of insurance from its agent, and if the installer is a separate company, ask for theirs.
Kings Mountain and Boiling Springs
Both are separate towns with their own zoning. Confirm with each town hall whether building inspections are done by the town or by Cleveland County before you tell a seller which office to expect.
Before you sign with any metal building company in Shelby
I am a customer, not a contractor. My $98,750 L&G Building & Concrete project, a county over, is a cracked slab and half a frame as of the last update. The county guide for Cleveland County has the full picture for your area.
